Small-group lessons for babies, toddlers and school-age kids at our purpose-built heated indoor pool in Smithfield. A step-by-step pathway, qualified instructors, and a teaching approach built around one thing: kids who actually love the water.
Tell us your child's age and how far they can swim assisted or unassisted, and we'll match them to the right class.
Ten levels from six months old to squad training, every one of them built on the Royal Life Saving Swim and Survive framework. Every child is placed by age and swimming ability, so they join the level that actually fits.
What age can children start swimming lessons? Babies can start at AQUAKids from six months old, with a parent in the water alongside them. Toddlers stay with a parent until around two and a half, then move into independent classes. School-age beginners are welcome at any age, and there is no point at which a child is too old to learn.

Ten levels, from six months to squad training
Ten levels — one pathway from your baby’s first lesson to becoming a swimming superstar.
A gentle first taste of water through songs and play, and a chance for you to learn safe water practices too.
More independence in the water, still with you beside them: kicking, paddling and early water safety habits.
The big one: their first lessons without you in the water, in a class of just four.
The preschool program. Begins with safe entries and bubbles; ends with a child swimming 5–10 metres.
Where school-age beginners start. Classes of four, so a child new to swimming at seven gets real attention.
The basics are there. Now it’s breathing, endurance and technique, with children constantly moving.
Confident swimmers refining stroke and adding survival skills. Most of the lesson is spent actually swimming.
All four competitive strokes, plus the survival and rescue skills for water that isn’t a swimming pool.
Efficient technique across all four strokes and real endurance, for carnivals, squad, or life.
The bridge from lessons to competitive squad: advanced technique, speed, fitness and rescue skills.
Every child deserves to learn to swim. Wherever possible children of all abilities join our regular classes, with their instructor’s support.
See what sets us apart from other swim schools. We take extreme pride and care with everything we do.
Every level follows Royal Life Saving’s Swim and Survive framework. Its benchmark: by twelve, a child should swim 50 metres continuously, tread water for two minutes and signal for help. That’s what we’re working towards as a standard.
Our swim teachers hold a Working With Children Check and relevant aquatic qualifications, and train continually in child-safe practice. They’re led by Angela, who has been teaching swimming since 1996.
Maximum group sizes of 4 students in the younger ages, and up to 6 in the older classes. That means every child gets individualised coaching and feedback. Your child isn’t a number in a crowded lane; they’re learning at their own pace with a teacher who knows exactly where they are.
Every child learns differently. We focus on patience, encouragement and building trust at each step. You’ll see the confidence grow, in the water and beyond it.
The whole facility is purpose-built for swim development, which changes everything about how a nervous three-year-old experiences their first lesson.
You’ll find us on Brenan Street in Smithfield, about ten minutes from the M4, with parking at the door. That puts us a short drive from Wetherill Park, Fairfield and Prairiewood, and an easy one from most of Western Sydney.
What’s inside
Tell us their age and how far they can swim and we'll match them to the right level. It takes about a minute, and there's no obligation.
Based on your child's age and swimming ability, we'll confirm the right level and find a class time that suits your week.
Weekly 30-minute lessons that build skills consistently, in a fun, safe and encouraging environment.
The best swim school in Sydney! My daughter has been attending since she was a baby and we are very proud of her confidence in the water! She swims so well all thanks to her amazing teachers at AQUAKids!
My daughter attended Aquakids and throughout, her instructor, the staff and Angela were beyond accommodating. This review is to show others how supportive and patient these ladies were with my daughter who has special needs. Thank you and see you all soon again
One of the best swim schools we’ve been to. The instructors are the best, my kids have progressed a lot since joining here. Thanks Aquakids Team!
I’ve been bringing my son here since he was 6 months old. And even though we do not live close by, I would not go anywhere else! Highly recommend the teachers here, my son has had really strong progress in his swimming skills. We currently have Ms Bec and she is the best teacher. Angela is always accommodating and welcoming. We had other teachers before and also were very happy! Other parents are supportive and have found myself having good chats with the parents here, such a great experience all the way through!
Best swim school in the area! I wouldn’t put my girls anywhere else. The teachers are skilled, patient and kind. The centre is clean. The owner Angela goes above and beyond to make sure she is providing the best services for her students. I highly recommend it!
Aqua kids have been our 4 kids’ saving grace when it comes to swimming and confidence in the water. The staff are welcoming and loving, and caring towards their students and don’t treat them like just another person. Classes are tailored to their individual needs and kids are encouraged to go beyond what they’re capable of.
Aqua Kids has been an incredible place for my children to learn swimming! The instructors are highly skilled, patient, and make the lessons fun while ensuring safety and proper technique. Both of my kids have gained so much confidence in the water, and it’s amazing to see their progress week after week. I recently enrolled my child in AQUAKids swimming school, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience! The instructors are incredibly patient and skilled, making every lesson fun and engaging. My child has made remarkable progress in just a few weeks, gaining confidence in the water and learning essential swimming techniques. The facility is clean and well-maintained, which adds to the overall positive atmosphere. I appreciate the small class sizes, allowing for personalized attention for each child. The staff is friendly and always willing to answer any questions I have, making me feel comfortable and informed as a parent. Overall, I highly recommend this swimming school to any parents looking for a safe and supportive environment for their kids to learn how to swim. It’s been a fantastic experience, and I can’t wait to see my child continue to grow as a swimmer! Five stars all the way!
Our son has been attending Aquakids since he was 9 months old and has loved every lesson. He is visibly confident in the water and is slowly becoming a good swimmer for his age. We highly recommend Aquakids for your child’s safe swimming needs
Excellent swimming centre, my 2 year old and 13 year old learn here and the teachers are patient, kind, and very experienced. Our kids love it. They are also very flexible.
100% would recommend this swim school to anyone searching for one, and would 100% recommend it to friends and family. Classes are not overcrowded so teachers can spend a good amount of time with each child. Very clean and very friendly staff. Love them so far!
Aquakids swim school came highly recommended and I can understand why. The staff are very accommodating and patient. My son was reluctant to get in the water and by the end of the lesson, the staff had him in and happy to learn.
Great swim school! My kids have gained confidence in the water and are progressing well. All the teachers are caring and nurturing and teach the vital skills so well.
Great swimming school. Small and intimate. Great teachers. They’re all fantastic with the kids. They go at the child’s pace. Love this place.
Lovely people at this center. Coach’s are great with the kids! A real family learning environment. Cannot recommend enough
I’m very happy with Aquakids swim school in Smithfield, it’s very hard to find an indoor heated saltwater pool, the teachers are so patient and kind my son loves going there, and the staff are so friendly and accommodating to my needs I would highly recommend them!
The things parents ask us the most, that we hope you find helpful. You can also see the entire list of frequently asked questions at the link below.
From six months old, with a parent in the water, right through to two and a half without you. If your baby has started crawling, they're ready to start swimming, though honestly you can begin at any age.
Only for Aquababies and Aquatots. From Pufferfish onwards (around two and a half) children attend the lesson without a parent in the water.
No worries at all. Just let us know before the lesson and we’ll be more than happy to book you in for a make-up lesson.
Everyone's nervous starting something new, so that's completely okay. Our AQUAKids teachers are there to help your child feel comfortable and safe in the water, at whatever pace they need.
Please do, and bring whoever else wants to come. Families are welcome to watch from poolside. All we ask is that everyone helps us keep lessons calm for the children in the water.
Tell us your child's age and how far they can swim unassisted and we'll place them. It takes about a minute on the booking form. Age is a guide; what your child can actually do in the water decides it.
A swim costume and a towel are the essentials. A cap and goggles are optional and depend on your child's age and level. If your little one isn't toilet trained yet, a water nappy must be worn.
Yes, happily. We accept NSW Active and Creative Kids vouchers — the program most families still call Active Kids — in person and over the phone, and we’ll apply yours to your fees for you. Each eligible child gets two $50 vouchers a year. Worth knowing before you budget for it: they’re for children aged 4½ to 18 whose family receives Family Tax Benefit, so they don’t reach our baby and toddler classes. Lessons are $28 for 30 minutes at every level, and you can see the full fee schedule alongside the times we actually have free.
Please do. Lessons are most effective when they're consistent and year-round. That's what builds stroke development and turns a swimmer confident. Our pool is indoors and heated to 32°C, so July feels much like January.
Yes, that's our No Limits program. Children join our regular classes wherever possible, with their instructor's support. If individual lessons would suit your child better, we offer private one-to-one classes. Contact us and we'll talk it through.
Still not sure which level fits?
Call us and ask. It's a two-minute conversation, and we'd love to hear from you, even if it's just a simple question.
